Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Transfer Case problem ?

1995 2500 Stock with auto, 4 Wheel Drive. 247000 miles.

Trans rebuilt at 130000 to put in a heavy duty Torque converter.

Aims Oil in the Rear and Front ends and the Transfer case for three years with very little towing. Started making a weak wining noise while driving in town two wheel drive. Kind of sounds like the noise it made when the switch on the front axle would not release last year and replaced it with a used one.

Got home,in part and I could turn the front drive shaft all the way around.

Look funny with the front axle turning and the front wheel not turning.

Truck is down as far as i know and I need help.

Some suggestions to try and narrow down what it could be.

1. Does it do it in 4 wheel drive?

2. If the transfer case is in neutral do you still get the sound?

3. Pull the front drive shaft, does it still make the noise?



Need to narrow down if it is from the transfer case, a drive shaft, transmission, or else where.

When I put this thing in 4 wheel drive the front drive shaft won't turn.
I'm afraid to drive this thing with the shudder it had last time out.
I'll talk to my transmission guy Wed and If he says I should not be able to turn the front drive shaft then I'll remove the NP241.
