I'm told I need to replace the transfer case shift motor on my 2004.5 dodge 3500, 6 speed manual trans. with a 273D transfer case. Before doing that I am wondering if others have replaced that shift motor and if there are any pitfalls.
As a bit of history, some time back I had a problem where the transfer case was shifting into 4WD by itself even though the selector was in 2WD. After having the system diagnosed, I was told the transfer case control module needed to be replaced. I had the TCCM replaced a couple of months ago and all was fine until recently when the transfer case started shifting into 4WD on its own again. The diagnosis now says the transfer case shift motor needs to be replaced.
On the internet there are, what appear to be, applicable replacement transfer case shift motors. It looks as if it is fairly simple to replace one but I'm wondering if there are any obscure requirements I might be overlooking, i.e. ECM or etc.
Thanks for any input you can provide.
