My 01 has 170k on the clock now. My transfer case is giving me problems. First it was only in low range. It would pop out of low at what seems to always be the most inopportune time. After doing some research it seems that maybe the shift fork is worn down enough for that to happen. The linkage looked all right and after adjusting it it still did it. I know nothing about the internals of a transfer case and for as much riding as it does in 4low the shift forks should not be worn much at all if any. Not sure why that would affect low and not high range however now high range is having problems as well but not the same one.

Now my 4 high is giving me problems. It is very hard to get into 4 high. First it doesnt seem to want to move into it. The lever seems very stiff. And once it does move it grinds like crazy going in if you can get it in. It takes many tries to get it in grinding away. Once it does go in it seems fine and has not had any problems at all going back to 2 high. While the high range has seen some use out of the 170k certainly no more than 2000 of it has been in 4 high.

Anyone have any ideas on whats up or what needs to be done?
