2nd repair I am working on currently. I need to replace the front pinion seal and both front output seals on the transfer case as they are leaking. I though I read here that someone had replaced them without too much trouble. Shop wants $360 in labor to change everything out. Any experience with this repair? I am trying to save a few bucks after getting this estimate from a local shop, no thanks. check this out.

Front Pinion Seal $30

Both Front output seals $60

Labor for Transfer case seals $360

--------------

total $450

Front bbrake service w/seals $350

ATF 2000 Transmission Flush $150

Radiator Hoses $195

Left front u-joint $75

labor on ujoing $162

-----------------

total $237

Grand Total of this $1382!!!!

Kwedberg: I need to do the transfer case front output seal sooner or later... ... it drips just a little. The job seems fairly straightforward. Probably have to remove the skid plate. The service manual calls for using a new companion flange nut which secures the flange on the shaft. There's also a companion flange rubber seal and then the springed inner seal. I plan on doing it sometime this summer. I think the toughest part will be getting the inner seal out and the new one in. The rest is just removing and replacing bolts and the big nut. Allow yourself plenty of time, and do it yourself. Good luck.

Just make sure you get the small rubber washer seal for the front output shaft, so that you don't misdiagnose a leaking front rubber washer through the splines for a leaking seal. The replacement is very straightforward. Easy enough for the beginner.

I've done all 3...

Like Chris said.

The pinion seal was the toughest, the torque on a Dana 80 is 450 ft-lbs. Do a search on pinion seal with my username and you will get a bunch of info from another thread.

Thanks for the all of the info! The members of this site are great! I always know anything about my dodge can be answered here. thanks again
