I have a new 2005 3500 CTD 3. 73 Auto and i've noticed that my transfer case shifter is sqeaking. It shoulds like a rubber bushing is rubbing against bare metal. If I hold the shifter it goes away. My question is how do I remove the shifter boot. I've looked at it, and can't see any screws etc. I don't want to try to pry on it if thats not the correct proceedure for getting to the linkage.

On my 03 which should be the same as your 05 there is a insert which indicates your shift pattern pull it out, I used a pocket size flat blade screwdriver an you will see a nut, remove and the shift knob un-screws to come off, then where the boot is located you will see a rim lightly pull or pry upward to remove, it snaps in place with clips. You then will see access to I believe 3 screws that you can remove to get the plactic cover off.

I done this when installing my Husky center floor liner that I cut out for the floor shifter.
