How are you guys liking the electronic switch VS. The good old reliable "pull the lever" four wheel drive engagement. I have always like the lever, but the wifes Durango has the switch and it seems to work OK. . Any comments or problems ????

Lawdog,

This subject has been beat to death, but to answer your question. So far I like my "good old reliable" electronic switch. It sure has had a workout this winter in the Northeast and has given me no problems. I doubt that anyone could argue it's convenience. As far as durability goes, no one knows the answer to that. The lever engagement "ain't like it used to be" either. I expect the lever will die a slow death like the locking hubs (ever had the pleasure of engaging those beauties with a pair of channies with the snow blowing up your "nose"?). Personally, I don't miss either of those features.

The knob is fine but I don't fully trust it yet. Now that the front end is always spinning (no vacuum operated axle disconnect), a lever would be the foolproof way to ensure four wheel drive. I wouldn't have minded a lever on the floor in place of one or two of the little cubbies by the shifter. I will say that it is really easy to put it into and out of 4-lo with the knob, no jerking on a lever required.

Knobs are always nice ;) , but I've been waiting two decades to get a real 4X and was picturing that brawny little shifter quietly standing by me as a reinforcement of my manhood the whole time. (Please don't let any real manly type guys or attractive women read that last line). Do I need help or what?

Ah what the heck, you can't go wrong either way. My lever works great, (on the truck that is, no grind - easy engagement) as does the knob.

Now where is that medication? Ah here it is. Now was it the little white pill or... the blue one?

Thanks,

I have always been a "pull the 4X4 lever" type guy, but the switch so far is nice on the Durango. I did not know the axle disconnect was gone and the axle was always spinning. My concern was my friends sickly, whimpy, no power, boat anchor 94 Gmc 4 door Dually 4x4 454 gass sucking pig... . did I leave anything out... :D has a lever, but it is just a switch that tells a solenoid to engage the front axle. Well we were trying to get up a nice back road grade from the cabin, on slick roads with about 8000 lbs or so, and... that is when the solenoid ddecided to not work... ... that was a fun ride... That was my concern. . I wnat 4x4 when I want it, not when it decides to work...
