So I was gently driving down the roadie my 2003 2500 CTD going no more than 25 mph and I feel a bump come from the right passenger side front wheel and heard a klunk then I start to hear something dragging so I pull off to the side of the road, put it in neutral and look to see if there's anything that has broken off the front Axel and see nothing hanging and nothing leaking from anywhere, so I get back in and go to put it in gear to keep going and the engine accelerates but no forward motion. So I put it in 1st then 2nd then Reverse and there is no movement. I call AAA and as their putting it on the back I start to see transmission fluid leak. When we get to the shop they unload it and it drops most my fluid. The Mechanic crawls under and se the Transfer case resting on my skid plate. It has snapped off behind the bolts on the housing.

Has as thei ever happens to anyone else? The truck has 216xxx miles on it

your pics don't show much. where is the crack? where is the broken parts? pics of oil on the cross member shows us nothing.
the OD units are known to break on these units. and could maybe be you issue.

I've seen the front drive peeled off the transfer case when the centering yoke on the driveshaft double cardin freezes from lack of grease.

When i get the truck back hes going to give me the part and ill post those pictures . The transfer case sheared off behind the bolts attaching to the transmission, on the housing case

Talking to the person working on it after he took down the transmission, it was the OD unit that came off. Good to know this is common. He replaced the housing and rebuilt the OD. While he was in the area replaced the Band, and Clutch plates in the transmission, there were hot spots and ofcorese the band was balk not the Orange.

Check the drive lines and joints. Have them balanced. Something caused it to break, find out what caused it, otherwise it will happen again.
