The article in TDR issue 39 page 23 states:
'Both the NV 271/NV 273 transfer cases are rated at 1400 ft-lb input torque as was the NV241HD used previously"
NV241HD: 5555 lbf-ft/11,000 lb GVW rating.
NV271/273: 7890 lbf-ft/17,500 lb GVW rating.
Even counting the above as maximum rated output torque when in low range both units exceed 1400 lbf-ft input torque capacity.
There is a 40% increase in torque capacity of the NV271/273 over the NV241/241HD.
