Transfer case trashed on my o4'

Heard noise under my truck thought it was exaust problem, take it to dealer. They tell me Ineed a new transfer case, it ate itself up. Could not give me a real reason why, just said oil was a little low. anyone had or heard of this problem before. Truck has 26,000 miles. .







2004 h. o. 3500 srw 4 dr 8 ft bed 4. 10 gears

I assume warranty is covering it?

Do you use the 4WD a lot and in what conditions.

Warranty is covering it, but will it happen again due to something else wrong. I haven't towed anything but fishing stuff and a few house move's, you know when you have a truck everbody needs your help. I've used 4x4 in the winter, i'm in p. a.

I trashed mine on my '01. But that was at 129K. Never changed the oil until 106K... "maybe" what did it in. Not sure how you can ruin one in 26K. Highly unlikely you'll ever do it that fast again. On the bright side, T-case should be covered under 7/70 so you've got a ways to go with the new one.

My dads late 03 ate a transfer case also, about 20,000mi. Kept popping when a load was applied and finally died. Its a plow truck, but never really beat on, ran in 4x4 alot though. No problems with the new one, got 30,000 on it now.
