What kind of oil is everyone running in there transfer case. What brand, what waight. Any one have to change that seal that the drive shaft slides into. :)

I use ATF, Dextron 3. The output seal does have a habbit of leaking after time, don't worry, it's cheap and easy to change.

I don't think anyone sells anything better they Amsoil's ATF. I use it in the automatic, transfer case of every car and truck we have. It works fantastic and really does help keep it cooler then some of the other brands.

I put Royal Purple SynchroMax in mine. Been fine for about 40k miles now. I check the level frequently and it still appears like new. I'm thinking of changing it for the hell of it this summer at around 50k.

Cory,

It may not be the seal around the driveshaft that is allowing fluid to leak. My leak was from an oblong rubber seal (much like the plug in the drum brake backing plate) ON TOP of the output housing. You'll have to reach way up under there to find it but its there on my 99.

I wiped it off and added some black silicone around it, reinstalled it and hadve not hade a leak since. The seal you mention as suspect was only readily available to me from the dealer when I really needed one. Later, I found out that my local NAPA store could get them for about half the dealer price.
