Just had my first problem with the '02. Pulling around 12000# on a gooseneck trailer, cruise set @ 75mph;) when I started losing power. After pulling over and the motor finally died after sputtering and smoking for a few minutes, I called the nearest dealership. The service manager didn't give much info on whether or not the Transfer Pumps had been an issue, but I was surprised when after being towed in(trailer and all) they gave me the keys to an '01 CTD w/a gooseneck hitch to use to deliver my load. It was identical to mine for the exception of being an automatic. Glad I didn't buy an automatic!:D Anyway, they had it fixed the very next morning and the warranty claim stated that the diagnostic codes were PO216 & PO260. Does anyone know if both of these codes relate to the transfer pump only, or is there another problem?

Also,

The tow truck driver insisted on dropping the rear drive shaft. Was this necessary?

Thanks in Advance

Very commendable that the tow truck driver actually "insisted" on droping the drive shaft IMHO - it's best to limit the free rotation on all the stuff transfer case trans etc. And limit wear on the ring & pinion caused by no load adverse drag of the trans etc. Maybe not necessary but a good call to be safe. once again MHO

great dealer

Awful nice of the dealer to give you a loaner truck all set up with a gooseneck :--). Best I can do is a Compact rental.
