Hello all,
Finally got around to getting a TransGo Shift kit for my 2001 2500, just went over 98,000, daily driver and sometimes long haul. Trans was acting weird the last couple of months, it would start in 2nd or 3rd gear?, but if you manually shifted to 1st it would go normally and then you would have to upshift manually. But it was not consistent and it would happen randomly.
I also replaced the Trans Gov Press Sensor and Solenoid since I had the pan down as was most likely the problem with the 2nd gear starts.
Anyway, it took 2 days for the shift kit install. Why 2? well look at the attached Pic. I got the VB down and out (I left the park rod on the VB, rotated it and it came out all together and went in the same way as well)
I followed the instructions and basically set everything to the middle
like Pg 1 - only drilled 1 hole (. 093) for a "Slightly firmer lockup"
I did put in the green TV spring, had to adjust the Manual Valve arm, (I will try to post a pic of that, I think I did it correct, Would like to know if adjusting it made any difference). Drilled the 2-3 holes on the new VB plate to (. 103) = Modified engine pg 6, drilled a (. 078) on plate by the lockup bracket pg 7, and did 2 turns out on the PR adjustment.
back to the 2 day install, well I should have known when the VB went right up in the trans with NO problem, installed the pan, and oh left the filter off, back down with pan, install filter and started placing tools back on the bench and then I noticed still sitting on the bench (5 screws, VB plate brace plate, and internal round filter)
:-{}:-{} it was then BEER thirty.
next day, colder up here at Colorado Springs, took back down, took apart, assembled ALL the parts this time, put back in truck, added 9 qts of trans fluid and took for a test drive. MUCH better, shifts a bit harder, but not too hard, no 2nd gear starts, and when you stomp on the throttle, it downshifts and kicks it no problem.
the only mods I have are a superchips flashpac, set to 'tow performance', 5" exaust, k&n replacement stock filter, and extra input air hole from dash, and homemade J-hook on the turbo to build more boost, and 3 pillar gauges.
if anyone plans on installing this, I would say go for it, only $100+ bucks and your own labor. I will answer questions if you want, it would be better to email me at -- email address removed -- as I dont check this site everyday. I will be taking into the colorado rockies tomorrow for skiing, I will post on how it went up and down the hills.
BTW-- the other pic is from the orginal VB Plate, does anyone know why one of the checkballs made such a big dent into that plate???
