I have a 96 with an auto transmission that has been shifting wierd for several years. Doesn't do it in the summer. It wants to stay in low till I let my foot off the accelerator like you do when shifting a manual with a clutch. It shifts up when you do this, but has gotten worse over time especially every year when the temperatures are colder. I suspect the TPS but wondered about the transmission itself with valves sticking. Fluid looks fine but shows high. I'm just about ready to pay for a diagnosis if I have to. What are the TPS readings I need to see. If my back will hold out I'll fool with the TPS first.

When is the last time you adjusted the bands?

I ask because a delayed shift to second is a classic symptom of a loose, severely worn, or broken front band. This can be caused by failure to adjust the bands per factory recommendations (every 30,000 miles or 15,000 when towing).

Best regards,

John L.
