Check out the Maintenance TipsDodge Cummins and Ford Power Stroke Diesel Truck Accessories - Geno's Garage on the Geno's Garage homepage. The last entry under Lube Tips states, "If you have a mysterious oil leak in your automatic transmission, check where the transmission dipstick tube goes into the case. You'll likely find a cracked "O" ring when you remove the dipstick tube. Replace the "O" ring for a quick fix. "
Unbolt the bracket that holds the tube in place and slipout. Put on a new o-ring (or rubber sleeve if that's what's on it). Put it back together. On my '98 I cleaned everything with strong solvent (don't recalll what kind) and applied a little RTV as extra insurance.
