new to the forum but experiencing some issues with transmission. I have a 1996 with the 47RE transmission. Towed my bobcat the other day and after dropping it off I was on my way to the house when I started to climb a hill it downshifted out of overdrive and stayed in third gear. I continued to the nearest store and checked the transmission fluid it was a little bit low but not enough to cause any damage. After adding a half quart of transmission fluid it wouldn't go into gear in Drive Range. I pulled it down into first and it moved fine and shifted through the gears manually. It never would progress beyond third. It would eventually slip if I tried to go to fast. I made it home in I guess limp in mode. I adjusted the front bands and the next day after cool the truck would progress through the gears manually to third but not go into lock-up or overdrive. After about four miles the transmission began to slip again and I would have to manually shift into 1st after turning off the truck and restarting. I pulled the pan and no metal on the magnet I adjusted the transmission bands and now I'm investigating before putting it back together. I'm wondering if the temperature sensor could of taken a dump? Prior to this happening I was having some issues with 3-4 shifts bouncing back and forth that I thought were probably due to TPS as I could avoid the problem if I held the throttle in certain position. Any help is appreciated. I checked the charts posted on this site and none of the situations seem to fit mine exactly. I guess next step may be to put new fluid in and give it a shot, but didn't want to if it is electrical and I would have to just dump the fluid again. Truck has 270,000 miles on it and original transmission. I had a shop replace the valve body one time due to a solenoid issue.
thanks for any help.

Time for a quality rebuild. Anything else is money wasted.

Add you location to your profile or post it and someone will be along to provide a suggestion of a good builder in your area. Snoking

Not shifting automatically? Governor pressure sensor issue?

But if you're already slipping, it's probably time for a rebuild.

I rebuilt mine last year, they're not too bad. If you tackle it yourself, the ATSG manual has a bunch of bad information in it.

Whoever does your rebuild, make sure they install the updated GM governor pressure solenoid kit and new sensor.
