Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) transmission acting up

My transmission is acting up. I tow a 8000#ish trailer and it started shuddering going into 3rd gear and OD if I am not real gentle on the throttle. This just started happening on my last annual trip to Baja. It is fine with no trailer. I have about 110k miles on the trans upgrades. Most of the miles are towing the trailer. I service the trans once a year and that is only about 10k miles I use Schaeffers full synthetic fluid. I don't know if it's the torque converter or the bands. I am going to service it this weekend and see what the pan looks like.
I hope not to start a war, but what is the latest greatest transmission companys. as you see by my sig I have DTT now and wouldn't have a problem going back with them.
