I'm posting this here also to see your options as i will be running a p pump and lots of power etc...

ok here is my deal i have a 89 4x4 srw 350 cummins with 727 transmission and 3. 08 gears... the stock convertor is too loose, and my transmission is slipping a little i think. I want to rebuild it to hold ALOT of power. as I am soon swapping to a p7100 pump with 370 injectors, enterprise delivery valves, and a #4 cam plate, amnd i'm working on a set of twin turbos... . no im doing this on a backyard budget and doing all the fabbing and work my self. I do not have the $ for a newer 47h transmission so thats out of the ?. . and the 727 is strong enough when built o hold alot of power. . ie hemis and lots of 440s use them also... . and its cheaper.

so the question is who's torque convertor do i use?... what price?. . and what transmission kit to i use to rebuild it?. . do i do a full manaul valve body? reverse shift pattern?. . etc i want to do this relatively soon... any ideas?. . ps i do like the 3. 08 gears. . and a non overdrive set is fine by me as i will be running a 4000 plus gov spring set. . and my racing deisel truck uses 3. 00 gears and a allison 3 spd no overdrive and just over 4000 rpm in a 6v53 and this runs 12 flat and possible 11's...

ok where do i get the convertor ?

where do i get the transmission kit?...

and what are your options?

thanks

First of all the Hemi to diesel comparison doesn't work. The Hemi gets it's power at higher RPM so the transmission pressures are a lot higher than the low RPM where the diesel gets it's power.

The thing to do is get hold of DTT at http://www.dieseltrans.com/ to find out what to do.

my reference to the hemi and 440 was just to say the trannys are strong..... i already talked to Bill K. he told me he can't help me much at all he told me to try Dave Goerand. . and gave me his # . . same as the # in the tdr and it doesn't work so i haven't talked to him yet. . any other people to try?... . thanks

I asked Bill about this thread and what he said was this, someone called and asked for his opinion on what was best for him, he suggested calling Dave because of the following , with the gear ratio and the tire size and the 18 cm housing , you do not need a tighter converter you need a looser TC to get the performance you were looking for, and as ours are very tight you would be better off getting a milled one for your application. As he knows milled to be milled Daves is the most ecnomically priced milled one on the market that he is aware of. You could go to ATS if you want but he know it cost more and the stator is still milled. Good luck with your search.

It really doesnt have anything to do with being ahead of the rest, anyone can take an easy sale, it's passing a guy on to a different vendor that may be better able to help him based on his circumstances that counts, at least to us it does.

Cool... never thought about the rear end ratio and non-OD thing making a tight convertor kinda bad.....

Thanks Stefan and Bill for clearing this up!

Matt - I got 4:10's and OD... . and my DTT transmission is gonna be great!

BTW, I don't plan on tackling the Rockies... so ATS' stuff won't work too good for me. :D

thanks for the reply stephan... . what im looking for is the strongest 727 setup i can get for a really powerful 3. 08 geared truck the 18cm housing is likely to change when i finish my twin turbo setup and p pump conversion so the turbo lag hopefuly wouldn't be much of a problem on the diesel drag trucks (6v53 allison 540 in a pickup) we run 3. 00 and 2. 75 gears and they run sweet with out the overdrive and definately run in the 12's and the 11's so i was hopeing to source the right 727 components to use in my ram and hopefully get around 500hp through it etc... i already have 75% or the performance parts and the 47rh is out of my budget for a little while ... so basically im trying to build a really fast furst gen 727 truck. . any help from ANY VENDOR is greatly appriecated

thanks again
