How do I determine what transmission I have in my 2005 2500 CTD? Reading posts, I see that the 2005 model has either the NV5600 or the 48RE . I've looked at my sticker and order sheet (took some digging) and it does not say? Also saw some stuff on the G56, but I think that started in '06, right ??

Also what is my axle diff, 3. 73 ?? I could swear that I ordered the 4. 10, but its not on my window sticker either.

Finally, does anyone know of any nice links to the history and evolution of the RAM transmissions? i. e. transmission evolution through 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gens? Suppose I'm just curious to being educated I guess.

Many thanks for everyone's help.

48re is the automatic. If your trans is manual and cast iron(little rusty)its the nv5600. The g56 started late 05 and is alum. If 4. 10 is not a option on the window sticker you have the 3. 73 gears.

G56 has reverse on the left, was only availible with 3. 73s. NV5600 has reverse on the right, could have 3. 73 or 4. 10s. I think the rear ratio is on the sticker in the glove box.

Well the 48RE is out, I have a manual 6. Also the casing is aluminum and not cast (pic attached). Reverse is on the left, so its a G56. Sticker in glove box says 3. 73.

Thank you guys !!! Its nice to get edu-micated ... :-laf

Interesting that the G56's came out in late '05. I ordered this in Jan. '05 and did not receive it until June '05. I suppose I was one of the first G56 owners.

The G56 went into production in January of 05. Remember model years are 6months ahead of calendar years. :)

If you didn't get it until June there was a lot of miles on a lot of G56's by then. ;)
