In my 97' Dodge owners manual and in the Dodge maintenance manuel sold by Geno's Garage, they recommend having the bands tighten/adjusted at each transmission fluid/filter change, but each place that I have taken it have told me there isn't anything to adjust/tighten. What is the deal? The maintenance manuel sold by Geno's shows a "Low/Reverse Band" adjustment screw and another one for the "High Band" adjustment. Does this really exist? If it can be and needs to be adjusted, how hard is it to do myself? I have never serviced my transmissiion fluid/filter myself. I do my own fuel filter changes, oil/filter/lube service, so I am game to do this myself if reasonable.

It's true, they are easy to adjust but unless you have a problem, leave them alone. Modern bands wear so slowly that you are better off leaving them alone. Loose bands cause an RPM increase between shifts as they let go before the internal clutches engage. This hurts nothing. If they are too tight, there are no symptoms but you have increased wear since the bands and the internal drum clutches are engaged at the same time causing increased wear. This advice comes from one of the transmission "Guru's" Dave Goerend.
