Can someone please explain to me what the transmission bands do? Might be a stupid question but I guess I don't really understand what the adjustments do... I adjusted mine today while changing my fluid and I'm not sure I got the one adjusted correctly. It's the one on the outside of the transmission by the neutral sensor, I tightened it up to 72 in lbs (seemed to take a LOT of turns to get it there) and then backed off about 2 turns (book says 1-7/8 turns)... . But read a link from DTT's forums that says that Bill will sometimes back it off more after a test drive. If I understood what the did a lil better I guess I would be more comfortable adjusting one way or another...

Right now I'm getting a lil bit of a jump in the 2-3 gear shift, it revs up more than normal, and almost seems like sometimes it skips 2nd gear all together...

Give them a call - even though your trans is stock (for now) Bill or any of the others you speak with will give you the straight poop. The bands basically grab the drum to engage which ever gear (speed) you are going into. If you are experiencing a longer than usual lag (so to speak) between shifts it's not a good thing. It's especially not a good thing if it wasn't present before you adjusted the bands. If the bottom of your pan looked anything like the picture below start saving your money and shop for what fits your needs best. MHO

No the shifting problem was there before I adjusted the bands too, but I think I made it worse by adjusting the bands... . There was no more material in the bottom of the pan than usual today when I changed the fluids... I plan on getting a new trans prolly next month but this ones gotta get me one trip to IA and back before then... .

there are alot of things that will cause a flare between gears. it could be hydraulic pressure leakage or other things. the pressure might not be building quick enough. there are ways of checking this. but your local trans shop may be able to do it easier. like by checking governor pressure and stuff like that. Im sure I may not be saying everything. and like Joe said, if there was alot of metal/clutch material in the pan it is time to start shopping.

Well I'm hoping that this transmission will make this one last trip, then I'm moving back to IA to be around my family... And I've already decided on the shop to do mine since I'm moving back to IA, I'm gonna have Dave build me a transmission so I don't have to worry about it anymore... Sucks not bein able to even use the power I got!!! I drive with the comp on about 1x2 and turn it up very very rarely. Gets too hot with my lil HY at this alt. And the trans doesn't like it much out of lock up...

Oh also last summer I replaced the gov sensor and solenoid due to it starting out in 2nd gear... So those 2 items maybe have 10-15k or so on them...
