hoping that some one may be able to point me in the right direction, my 48re after getting rough with it it will not downshift to first gear automatically if you pull it into manual one it does not move fells like its binding and if you are rolling slow and pull it down it stops the truck like a break. however it will drive in all othergears and shift points are correct, reverse is fine and strong with no slipping at all or lock-up issues. i am stumped and would appreciate any advice! thanks Burt

You are most likely getting 2 or 3 rd gear starts. Could be the govenor pressure solenoid and or sensor. At any rate I would not drive it like this at all. I would have a tow truck take it to a good transmission shop or dealer if still under warranty. You WILL destroy the transmission very quickly. Been there and done that.

I replaced both the transducer and govenor solenoid which restored the shifting, also removed the valve body and checked for sticking valves, broken springs couldn't find a thing. no metal parts or anything in the pan, replaced filter and fluid. it also makes no unusual noises it does obviously start out in second gear. disconnected the batteryies for awhile and that didn't do anything either. . i am my own warranty station at 30k

I had a Bronco with a C6 in it. After extensive motor work and playing around the same happened to me. If I pulled it into 1st while rolling the wheels would lock.

I ended up having to do a complete rebuild. Something about a broken shaft or gear (the mechanic wasn't too specific, and I was too young to care)
