I have a '96 Dodge 3500 w/90k miles, blew the auto transmission in Front Royal Virginia pulling my 37' RV, guess the mountains killed it. The scene was ugly guys, the responding tow truck drivers were like something from the movie 'deliverance', the first one bent my bumper and destroyed my front tag. The second driver, poor dumb bstd wanted to pull the truck with the trailer! It was amazing how many 'professional mechanics' I visited Saturday who wanted to replace the damn transmission but could not provide an estimate, not even the one's with the large Jasper signs on their garages. I'm back in Maryland and the truck is at a Dodge dlrship in Front Royal. Question: Should I let the dlrship (5star if it means anything) replace with OEM unit or Should I insist on a Jasper or other type rebuild? The dlrship said they are the same but he may be reading the same SCREWED lettering on my forehead.
The truck is used for landscaping pulling a trailer most of the time and an RV with the family when we can get away.
Help, thanks for reading and replying on a holiday weekend!
