Has anybody ever put and Amsoil bypass filter system in for their transmission? It seems like it would be a good idea, I just don't know which model would be for that, or where to pipe it in, and where to install the actual unit. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

interesting, I'm gonna follow this thread.

Quite a few have put a filter in, none have done a true bypass that I have seen yet. An an inline full flow filter is the easiest to do but has the largest potential for causing more problems than it fixes.

There is no place on a 4XRE\H to tap into the existing pump pressure that is full flow full pressure. The cooler output line is not a constant flow\pressure source and the return portion is trans lube and cooling. The potential for starving the trans of lube\cooling is pretty high if the filter setup is too restrictive at a micron level that is useful.

A couple of ways to do it without impact to the trans exist.

A true orficed bypass that returns the fluid thru the fill tube is one option. This entails cutting the fill tube and installing a Y to tap the filter return on to. This should work relatively well if the return flow is low enough to not overfill the tube.

Another option is a full flow filter with a seperate pump that is tapped to each side of the pan. This setup would allow full pass filtering and not impact the trans circuits at all. The downside is another pump, power source, plumbing, etc. to make it functional. A low flow pump that would circulate the total fluid capacity in an 8 hour period would allow constant use and be a minimal amp draw. Cost may be a consideration as things need to be well sealed under the truck but the benefits are quite a bit better than other solutions.
