i had my trany rebuilt and the guy told me i need to have my lines cleaned out but told me to make sure the trany line that had the check ball was good. does any one know what line he is talking about?

Grasshoppa,

The check ball is in the return line (I believe) coming out of your after cooler (Below your turbo), it is a rubber line with crimped fittings at either end, and is about a foot long. You can remove it, and have a new one made at a shop that makes hoses. Most Napa's can do it.

Check DTT's web site. I think he sells a braided steel covered hose already made up to replace the check ball line.

He put one on mine when he replaced my transmission.

Thanks guys for your help. I talked to a friend last night and he told me to remove the ball. It can cause problem if it gets stuck. He told me were to look and I found it then removed the ball and put it back together. I bet this is what caused my trany to lock up on me two mouths ago. it welded the tork converter to the shaft. They had to cut the housing off to see the pump then had to cut the converter in haft to make sure they got the right shaft size. I wish I knew about this ball some time ago. Thanks again for ya'll help.

Yes it can be a problem , Did the transmission on my wifes 95'1500 gasser 2 years ago. Got it home and went 20 miles and transmission went out completely. They redid transmission and took out check ball. Plugged up and killed it>

GLAD I did not have to pay twice ...

well i pulled the ball out is't working fine trany runs cooler. well i think. one thing it is doing now is in the mornings it takes a few min to bild pressure befor it starts to move. but after that it runs good.

Yes, it allows the converter to drain back (without the check ball), let it run a minute or so on a cold start, before tearing off to assure pressurized lube flow or you'll be into the transmission again.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think a mopar auto fills the converter in park, if you shift to neutral for a while before you go to drive or reverse it should shift into gear normally. This seems to work on my 247,000 mile Dakota trans.

When they redid the transmission on my wifes truck he took out the check ball and it takes off right away. Don't have to wait at all. Has worked great since then. 2yrs. Larry.
