I've got a 2006 with a manual that is making a grinding noise. The noise sounds like 2 plates rubbing/scraping together. It only occurs once in gear [3,4,5] and once I've lifted off the gas pedal. Only feeling a slight vibration thru the clutch pedal. My truck has only got 25000 miles and I only use it to pull my 30ft. travel trailer[9000lbs]. Could this be the throw-out bearing or possibly something else. Any input will be greatly appreciated.

I think there is a TSB about this some thing about the self adjuster failing???? You might be able to get a new clutch under warrenty????

Sounds like a friend of mine's truck. His was an 06 it started vibrating idling turned out to be the dual mass flywheel. Believe several have had problems with them. We put Southbend conversion clutch in his. He was real pleased with it.

From your post I can't determine if the noise you describe occurs with your foot on the clutch, or off the clutch pedal. That is the key question. If it occurs when your foot is pressing the clutch pedal down it could be the throwout bearing or the pilot bearing or something more sinister in the dual mass flywheel/clutch assembly which I am not familiar with.

If it occurs when your foot is not on the clutch pedal that would normally eliminate the clutch and throwout bearing from suspicion. If your truck had a conventional flywheel/clutch I would say that the cause was likely to be the transmission itself. With a dual mass flywheel clutch I simply don't know.

Butterman,

Welcome to TDR.

Q. Engine running, trans in neutral, clutch engaged (pedal up) increase RPM, slowly up to 3,000. does it start to vibrate?

Check out my poll in the 6. 7 Forum on the G56 and vote when you find out what it is, and welcome to TDR ;)

I have only one question for you, do you start out in first or second gear when your TT is connected? OK another question do you ride the clutch, meaning do you keep your foot rested on the clutch pedal when driving?
