Ok -

So I have an upgraded TC and transmission built by Jannetty - all on the stock transmission cooler.....

... Today I added an electric fan to the stock cooler - thinking when I hit the switch temps would drop significantly in traffic.

Much to my surprise - I *might* be seeing 10deg cooler... 20deg if I'm lucky... but reality is it's closer to 10deg.

Granted it was 90-92deg outside today... but still... .

Any thoughts guys? Does this sound about right... or am I missing something here?

Installing the fan wasn't exactly rocket science, so I'm pretty sure it's done right.

Thanks,

Jay

Don't forget that your transmission fluid temperature is regulated by your coolant temperature--if your coolant is 195 degrees, and you're trying to bring your ATF temperature down from 180, you're having to fight the heat that's transferring from your coolant to your ATF.

I don't think it is the drop in temp that is important, unless that is what you were looking for due to high temps already, but what would be more important to me is that is may keep the temps from rising during stop and go traffic situations. JMHO

Where are you reading?

Hi Jay, where is your trans temp being read?? in the pan or in the line coming out of the trans on the way to the coolers?'

If it is in the pan, then that is after the coolers, if in the line then this is after the heat of the TC and the rest of the trans has added their heat to the ATF.

If you are getting 10-20* in the line then you are getting a lot more cooling than the temp gauge is telling you, if the reading is in the pan, then that is how effective the extra fan is.

The amount of air being drawn through the stock cooler is while not a lot at idle, it increases a lot with rpm and air speed. So the fan may not be adding all that much air flow over stock.

I've always wanted to add a fan to my cooler too, but haven't got around to it yet. What fan, from where? Have any photos??

Thanks for the replies guys!!

Cooker - yeah, my main goal was to keep temps as low as possible in stop and go traffic and that's really where I see that slight drop in temps... on the open road temps are very low fan or no fan.

Hey Greg!

My temp sensor is in the line - so, I'm getting the hottest fluid for sure. So - that 10-20deg drop in the line = much better in the pan.

I'm with you on the air CFM moved as i roll down the road, mainly the fan was for stop-go type situations. On the open road - I leave it turned off and the air blowing across it is perfect.

I'll snap a few pics tonight and post them :D

It's a Derel 8" electric fan from Summit Racing - I think it was ~$50 or so.

Thanks,

Jay
