Transmission coolers

Has anyone herd of a bigger auto. transmission cooler that goes @ the rear axle? I've heard of it but can't find any info.

My understanding is those underbed coolers with a fan were for the 89-93 first generation trucks. They needed the extra cooling badly. Post '94 trucks normally run pretty cool.

I think the 94 and up transmission cooler set up is one of the best factory set ups I've seen. I never could understand the logic behind the old style set ups. You're trying to keep transmission tems as low as possible, so you run it through the radiator, and then put a 195* thermostat in it. Hmmmmmmm.

I installed a under the bed,cooler from DC on a 92 I use to own. It was expensive I think I paided about $378. I seen them advertized later for about $150. It was basicly the same set up. It may have been B&D. or another advertizer in TDR.

The radiator cooler does a lot more work than you think,unhook it and tow something and you will see. You also want the transmission warmed up to work at its best.

had seen, quite some time ago, in one of my jeep magazines, an auxiliary trans cooler that allowed retaining of the stock system, and replaced a few feet of the frame-mounted tubing instead---- it was basically a long piece of billet aluminum, bored thru, end-to-end for a fluid path, and ribbed longitudinally from one end to the other... plumbing fittings threaded to the ends, and you could mount it crossways inside the front bumper, lengthwise down the framerail, or, I suppose more creatively if desired... looked like a good sturdy piece. . don't remember the name of the company, though... If I ever get thermally paranoid, i might see if that company still exists... rich
