Coming home from work. Going uphill trans started slipping and truck stopped. Tried to runaway downhill backwards in drive! Outside air temp 100°+. Truck temps normal. Trans overheat light never came on.

Waited a little while and coaxed it to move forwards. Got it over the top and came down the hill in drive but it felt like it was in neutral.

Coasted to a stop. No forward movement in any gear. No rearward movement in reverse. Called for a flatbed, and towed it home.

While waiting for the tow I checked the fluid. It appeared to be overfull! Once home and on the ground, I put it in reverse and it moved. Haven't tried drive yet.

Any ideas?

The ironic thing is; I had just this morning called Bill K. and got some great information (again!) on a different matter. Go figure.

Thanks, Evan.

Thanks for the reply. Right now the truck is resting out front. Trying to find out where to get the proper gauge and tube set up.

Anybody out here in Central, CA have one they can loan (Hint, Hint?)

All you need is a 150 psi guage with a 1/8" pipe thread on it. Support the truck properly, crawl under it and start checking. If it goes backward but not forward I would suspect the OD unit. Do yourself a favor and start with a NEW one from our pals at DC. That way it will have all the updates done. (That's what I did. )

Good luck, I hope for your sake it isn't the OD.

What kind of wheels do you have?

Latest news.

It moves!!! Drove it into the driveway. Pulled the pan. Fluid dark and stinky. Not like it was the day before. Magnet LOADED with crap! No chunks or parts on floor of pan.

Even more befuddled now. Any ideas? Gonna put a new filter in it fill it with fluid. Anybody know where I can get a lot of holy water to wash the truck with?

Here's the wheels. Eagle alloys.

I would be willing to bet that it needs more than a fluid change. Sounds like a lot of debris in there. It probably clogged parts of the valve body so you didn't have enough pressure to apply the clutches. If it did that you probably need a cooler and line flush too and then you need to find out where the debris came from in the first place. Most common clutch that comes apart from heavy towing is the TC clutch and it makes a big mess. I was lucky and caught mine just before it came apart. I tow a similar weight trailer. That metal on your magnet probably came from the front cover if the TC clutch went south.

Do yourself a big favor take to someone who knows what they are doing!!

Mine did about the same thing. . when it crapped out. .

It was the 1st and 2nd clutch pack and the TC clutch was on it's way out.

I tried the quik fix and 2weeks later cost me 3000. 00 big ones to have the hole transmission rebuilt. My ride only had 36000 miles on it and a Trans-go shift kit. The lock up valve got stuck and ran the transmission dry because it could not get fluid.

Check you clutch area's seeing in and all how you have got the pan off.

Better yet call Bill K. you are alot closer to him and his people. .

Get it done right.

I did!!!

The verdict is in!

What with Lana's great test results and the fact that I want my TRUCK back!

We are going to order a transmission from Bill K. in the morning.

A side note, we scaled the rig a few weeks ago, 20,120# and that was light! No water, 1/4 tank of fuel, empty holding tanks and not much other cargo etc.

Not bad for a truck with a 14K GVR :D or  , don't know which. By the way, the same day my cousin weighed his D-Maxicrak at 20,160#. His trailer is lighter than ours too!:p

Thanks for the pics! Nice rig!

Uh, did you know there's a HOUSE stuck to the back?

Sounds like the right fix, you shouldn't have any more problems.

Huh???

No wonder the truck keeps lookin' around trying to see what's hanging off its A$$ .

Ya know, they say "don't leave home without it". But is this really what they mean?

Maybe trying to outrun the house is what killed the trans, NAH!:(

Fat and happy, draggin' 10 tons of fun.
