Today is a sad but also a joyful day. My stock transmission after 108+k miles died yesterday :{. Not to bad for the stock transmission I think. But what could be the good news you ask? I just bought ATS's transmission with the Triplelok converter :D and I’m having it installed next week once it gets here. I cannot wait to feel the improvements that it should bring.

Also this is my very first post to TDR and I’m siked about that to.

How did it die?

I think youll like the Triple Lock. I've heard the original (OEM) transmission isn't "all that".

While going down the highway when I would hit an incline doing about 60, it would start to shudder like it was trying to find a gear. Also from a dead stop when it was working, it would shift into 3rd/overdrive around 40-45 mph now it was not doing that until about 60mph. Friday on the way home it was really bad and I had to keep it at about 50. I was praying I would not have to stop because just shifting into 1 and second I thought the truck was going to stall. When I got home I checked the trans fluid and it was black :( . I had just had the transmission serviced about 4 weeks ago to. My mechanic said the fluid was a tad brown at the time. He agrees with your statement that the stock transmission is crap.

He just bough a the new 03 2500 cummins BTW.

OH... the shuddering and shifting probs started about a week ago. SO it went pretty fast. Not to noticable 6 days ago but in hind sight I should have looked into it more.

They are descent transmissions they just need some aftermarket work.

Sounded liek the Presures were low. Did you add any power?

What was the majority of your driving style like? Heavy Footed? Light Footed? Lots of stop and go? Any offroading, or rocking Forward/Reverse?

By The Way,, Welcome to TDR.

I have not done anything to my other than add a K&N filter three weeks ago. I have been intentially waiting to start adding anything until my engine warrenty was over. Now that I am at 108K I was just now really starting to look into bombing her.

As for my driving its a bit of all of the above. I use her for daily driving back and forth two work about 90 miles round trip. The first portion of the trip Im doing about 65 70 for 15 miles. Then I start to hit traffic and its kind of just creeping for and stop and go for for miles. Then it picks again up for to about 6 miles doing 45 to 60 mph Then I get to my dirt road where I put it in 4wd for about a mile. Then back to paved and 2wd for the last mile into work doing stop and go. On the way home its the same just reverse it.

About 8 times a year I head up to West Virgina with the bed loaded down pretty good but no trailer. I bought her used in 2000 with 42k miles on her. Who ever had her before me had it set up to towing. She was only 9 months old with 42k on her. This is the first problem I have had with her.

You will love your TripleLok! I got mine when I had 107,000 on the odom.

I feel ATS has done the most thorough job of engineering of all the Performance Trans Builders out there.

I agree about the 47RH & 47RE being decent transmissions. They are not great, but they are decent, especially if a person services them regularly. Mine lasted a long time, and I was bombed and towing a 5th wheel for some time. I DID breathe a sigh of relief when I got my ATS though, as I didn't want it to break down on some out of the way place where I couldn't get a decent trans rebuild.
