I know this has been discussed but can't find the information with a search.

I have an 01, 6 speed with 65k. I'm getting ready to change the fluids in the transmission & Diffs because I'm going on a long trip pulling a 5 er this spring. I live in Colorado so I get pretty cold but not real bad. -2 is a cold night where I live. Retired so really have to get up and go out in the elements every morning.

Please advise. Is going back to the DC recommended fluids as good as some of the others I have read about. I have been told a synthetic would be good in the transmission & diffs but unsure what to use.

Any info would be appreciated with what TDR members have had success with!!!:-laf

I have put the factory stuff in my transmission but I have just put schaeffer's oil in my diffs it is the 75w-90 full synthetic so far I have I been very happy with what I have chose

I use amzoil 75-140 synthetic in the rearend. I tow a 12750lb 5er and have about 108000 mi on the rig with about half those miles towing. No problems as of yet. .

I would strongly recommend a synthetic. For people who run empty a lot, 75w90 is the way to go for the diffs but if you tow heavy in the warmer months, 75w140 is better. I run amsoil in my diffs like a lot of people here and have no complaints.

I don't know the answer to your transmission question since I have a nv4500.

I use Royal Purple 75W-140 in the differential. I change it ever 50k and it hasn't failed me yet. I also have a Maghytec cover so the capacity is now 7 qts. Only fuzz on the drainplug magnet.

Sorry, I don't know what the 6 speed uses for lube, but Standard Transmission in Ft. Worth has stopped using Syntorq in the 5 speeds and have gone to Amsoil. You might give them a call and see what they use in the 6 speed.

I do not work for or sell their product, but I do use it.

I have the NV5600 and serviced with Amsoil MTF... it's made specific for the NV5600 and it got rid of the 2nd to 3rd grind when cold. Whatever you choose, make sure you get oil specific to the NV5600! The 4500 and 5600 have different synchro styles and metals so NV4500 oil will make the 5600 tough to drive and wear it out.
