what interval is everyone changing fluid/filter? i know the owners manual says 30k, but iirc the warranty booklet says 60k... or is it fluid @ 30 and fluid/filter @ 60?

My owner's manual prescribes fluid changes @ 30k. I actually changed it @ 40k and it came out perfectly pure. It was bright strawberry red in color, smelled fresh, and contained no particles whatsoever. I suspect 60k would be a more appropriate change interval.

i changed mine the first time @ 20... . thinking that i want this transmission to last a very long time, and because I technically pull more than I prolly should. It was just as you described, looked like brand new fluid, fresh smell, like it was poured out of the bottle, not the transmission

I've been changing mine at 60 with a filter change. No problems at all, and like Harvey says, it looks like it was just came out of the bottle. No metal at all, just some clutch material. I've never seen a temperature above 135 degrees.

The company I work for is a Mobil distributor in 4 states. I have been ignoring my transmission fluid change for too long but was thinking when I changed I would go to Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF. Mobil 1 does not meet the requirements for this transmission. After doing a little research, I believe Mobil does not make a fluid for this transmission.

Kendall is usually at the forefront on these automotive lubricants. This link is their equivalent to Mobil Multi-vehicle fluid. If you look down to Dodge Trucks and look clear to the right column, in red it says only Mopar fluid works.

If you look at the Mobil website page, it says you can use the 3309 Fluid in Aisin transmissions but only lists sports cars. It doesn't mention Chrysler or Dodge.

My in house lubrication engineer said it looks as if Mopar has the only fluid for that transmission as of right now. I'm not saying this is the final word on this but I am going to use the Mopar fluid for now.

Dan,

It's yours and you are free to put whatever you choose in it but did you read my post #1 and post #18?

Mobil is the ONLY manufacturer that makes the Aisin fluid. MOPAR sure as heck doesn't refine and bottle it. They buy it from a refiner. Mobil in this case.

If you read the list of applicable products on the Mobil website you will see that it lists a wide range of vehicles which all are using an automatic transmission manufactured by Aisin. It is true that the Mobil website does not specifically mention Dodge but the website and the Mobil MV ATF bottle obviously predate the Dodge Ram C&C w/ Aisin.

As I wrote, if you read the specs on the back of the MOPAR plastic jug of Dodge C&C Aisin automatic transmission fluid you will see that it is precisely the same product, same spec, and same description as that found on the Mobil Multi-Vehicle ATF website.

The key to identifying the proper ATF is the engineering spec 3309 which appears on the Mobil MV ATF website, the Mobil MV ATF bottle, and the MOPAR bottle purchased from a Dodge dealer under the part number for Ram C&C w/Aisin.

You might be right.

My in house lube engineer said that Mobil Multi-Vehicle fluid was a lighter duty fluid than the ATF+4 or the synthetic so he didn't believe that was the right fluid. I am working with a Mobil Engineer on another engine issue. The next time we visit I will ask him about this subject. Hopefully he will be able to shed some light.

Dan,

I wouldn't make decisions that could cost me money on the advice of that "in house" lube engineer you're talking with. He is not up to speed. You sure he's not just a product salesman? Every engineer I ever talked to was so detail oriented he wouldn't brush his teeth w/o first reading the product descriptions on his toothbrush and toothpaste, maybe have the water tested first also. An engineer's detail orientation is part of what makes them good. Your guy is a seat of the pants guesser.

Ive found Eneos brand Eco ATF fluid at NAPA. It is factory fill on a lot of Asian vehicals, and the Aisin transmission. On the bottle it says it meets the T-IV spec, and 3309 spec that these transmissions need.

Good job, HBarlow you should have been a deetective. I think you have saved me a lot of time in figuring out what I will use in my new truck.
