Before truck was in accident, I check the trans fluid and it was redish. After Accident (body shop changed transmission cooler, and fluid I suppose) it is now black? Is this just a different fluid, and is it OK to use?

Darren - help... ... P. S. the truck is back in body shop to fix what they did wrong the first time...

Definitely change the fluid and then keep an eye on it very closely for a while. Also, call Bill Kondolay at Diesel Transmission Technology.

I've never seen (and don't think there is) any transmission fluid that's supposed to be black.

Great that is what I was afraid of... ... ... Thx TXRam

You might spend the money to get the transmission fluid tested when your changing it. If it comes out ok the piece of mind has got to be worth $20. 00

Not Black.......LOW!

I check the fluid this morning early, and it looked black... ...

So I rechecked at the Body shop when I was dropping off..... It wasn't Black it was LOW!!!! Those F*&^%$# idiots..... I was sooooo Pissed they didn't put (or not enough anyway) fluid back in after changing the Transmission cooler. Ahhhhhhh:mad:

Just goes to show, when you get your vehicle back from the GARAGE CHECK EVERYTHING.

Damn it, I always check after getting an Oil change, don't know who I'm more mad at them or myself for not checking.

How much damage do you think I did?

You have a transmission temp gauge? Now's a good time if not. Gee... there was one there until it was in an accident... . maybe they forgot to put it back in line with the cooler?

Watching the temp is really the only way to know about potential damage. Although if the fluid is burnt it's a warning sign; hopefully caught in time.
