transmission fluid leak

I was givin a failed transmission(which was a new service unit)D/C- You guess it, out of warranty
he had to buy another, I pulled the top off LACK OF LUBE. Where did it go???????????
Might add this was in under 15k.
Also bad maintanceAND i might add the D/C tk didn't do a great install.
To protect your self from this ,if you have a leak from around the speedo pick-up body and the transmission--------- or you remove said p/u make the o-ring is ok .
Clean off with ether(starting fluid) air dry and coat with bath tub silicone caulk,install,will never leak again. And can be removed if needed years later

tdrmbram, we have spoke on the phone a couple of times, over the last couple of years, regarding good old gear 5. Thanks for all your help.

I have a leak which shows up as seepage between the transmission and the bell housing. Opinions from others indicate that since it is not coming out the vent slot (where the teeth show) it is probably not the input shaft seal, but it is probably the counter balance cover seal. I figured I could leave it alone and just keep checking the fluid level. My main concern was leaking fluid all over a perfectly good clutch and the leak getting much worse very quickly. Any thoughts on this?

Incidently, I learned a lesson about checking fluid levels when you weren't the one who filled the unit. Took a major bath with about 1/3 quart of juice.
