Transmision Fluid question?
I have about 72,000 miles and never have had a service on the transmission. Nothing wrong, no leaks or any indication of a malfunction. Here in Anchorage there are 2 Dodge dealer ships and not having any idea of what transmission fluid to use I first checked the dipstick to see if had any information and it did. It said to use Mopar 9602. So thinking that Dodge would be outragous on price ever since I went Dodge for an engine oil filter and they wanted $36. I called a local petroleum distributor and asked if he had some thing like that. I was told that the dodge transmission fluid was a propritary type and had a ATF+4 additive in it. They said to go to Dodge and get it. Next I called the Lithia Dodge dealer and they told me they used "Pensoil Multipurpose transmission fluid" in 55 gallon drums. So then I thought to call the other Dodge dealer and was told by the parts dept. that I "HAD" to use Dodge's 9602 and no other fluid. So anyway I would like to do it right the first time myself. I have the Mag-tec double deep pan so that would be 7 quarts + 4 quarts for the Mag-Tec pan. One of these dealers is not giving me the right story so which one????
