Best location of Banks transmission temp gauge. I located in a plug hole in transmission but not sure if it is the most accurate temp reading. I haul a 35' Carriage 5th Wheel. Temp runs between 200 and 220.

Best place is hot hot line from your trans since it tells you fluid temp as it leaves the converter to the coolers. Call Scott at MASS diesel he will set you up 1-800-477-6127.

Consensus from most of the transmission guys I've read seems to be that the test ports on the transmission are not the best for the temp sensor.

Most recommend the hot cooling line although some prefer "in the pan" location. I put my '98 in the pan but on the '06 used a external device attached to the hot cooling line. I've found it responsive and accurate. A significant advantage is that there is no way dealers can allege that it has damaged the transmission. Geno's has an adapter for $32. It's quick to install and reasonably priced. Add a little heat sink grease to the connection to assure heat transfer.

I thought it sounded pretty high too. My '98 w/ probe in transmission pan rarely got off the 140* peg unless I was pulling a pretty steep, long hill. Even on the hot side cooling line, I generally run 150 or so except when pulling. I doubt normal temps would ever reach 200.

I have run both in the pan and in the rear test port, they both read the same. 200 - 220 is pretty hot, are you running alot with the TC unlocked? slow stop and go?
