I have a 98. 5 stock 24 valve automatic. I pull a 10000# 5'er. The truck has about 90K on it and the 5'er about 2K. It has been all Florida flatland pulling. I have Amsoil transmission fluid in for the last 25K. Temperatures have been normal at all times (gauged).

I noticed some difference in the shift into OD before our last camping trip (just a hint something was different). When I got back from this 200 mile trip, I found the transmission hunting for OD at around 50-55. Not a shudder, but more like when you are not quite getting into gear and it hops in and out. Also, feel this around 40+ when not at high rpm. If I lockout OD, then I feel this at lower speeds. Is this the TC clutches? The valve body? A controller problem? Any way to check?

Could this just be a tweak by the dealer, or a major overhaul?

Has anyone had much luck getting Chrysler to kick in their piece toward a non-stock TC? I will probably go to a performance TC, but don't need a lot more power, just need the stronger transmission.

I believe someone here said that there is a reflash to help with that problem. Someone out here should be able to pipe in with info.

Good news!

I went to the dealer today and got two TSB reflashes done. One covers the exact sympoms mentioned, and makes the controller less sensitive to voltage fluctuations that were causing an erratic TCC engagement in 4th gear. They also checked the electrical system for any problems. They did a very professional job. Apparently this TCC problem is common, as the tech said he has worked on several units in the last few weeks with the identical problem/solution. So far the problem has gone away for me.
