As my footnote says, I have a 48RE. I see threads that say they have a DTT 89%, what does that mean? I assume DTT is the name of the manufacturer, but the 89%?

I am installing the Edge juice with attitude, and need to know what I need to do to the transmission to ensure long life. Do I just need to change the torque converter and valve body? I do not plan on any more mods aside from the Edge.

Basically, I'm looking at raising the power and want a transmission that will provide many, worry free miles with basic maintenance.

Is there any good diesel shops in the Richmond/Norfolk, Virginia area that are recommended and would y'all have any contact info for them?

I've read the transmission thread from the moderator and am not looking to start any arguements, I'm just looking for an unbiased education on automatic transmissions.

Thank you for any help you can provide,

Mike

Buzzer, thank you. There seems to be so many options/possibilities out there. I am in Chesapeake, do you know of any reputable shops in the area?

Mike, you want to talk to some of the aftermarket transmission builders like DTT and those that advertise in the TDR magazine first. Many of them will ship the transmissions or upgrade parts to one of your local shops but you won't know who they work with until you ask them first.

The percentage number describes how "tight" the TC is. The higher the number the tighter the TC. The stock TC is so loose its pitfull. Dodge puts gasser TC in these truck to save money and to keep the engine from killing the trans. (Ford is no different. I can't stand to drive my dad's Powerstroke. ) Getting a tighter TC makes a night and day difference in how these truck drive. It's is soooo much better. Increasing the power on a stock TC is kinda pointless because all the extra HP doesn't get to the ground, (until the TC locks) it just makes more heat. It also increases your risk of trans failure. Whatever, trans vendor you decide to go with, I highly recommend doing the whole trans. Go in once, do it right and you have a trans as good as the engine. It's pricey, but worth it.
