So i finally decided to tighten the bands on my transmission. Bought a disk, printed out the instructions, and never paid attention that it said 72 inch lbs not ft lbs. Of course it wouldn't move. I'm going to buy an inch lbs torque wrench tomorrow and re-torque. So my question is did i do any permanent damage? The magnet was covered in the pan and the reason i felt the need, in the first place, was stuttering from 1st to 2nd at low speed. Also a bang going into reverse.

I cannot answer your question about your transmission. However, I see in your signature that you are using a K&N air filter. That is a definite NO-NO, especially if you go off road. Search on air filters and you will find threads on the air filter subject.

I'm not sure I understand what you did. Did you tighten the band bolt until it would not move anymore, or did you tighten it so tight the truck will not move? Usually when someone tightens the bolt too tight the band strut shears off the band. If the bolt is still tight you might have lucked out. Only time will tell if you ruined anything. You can drop the pan again and then drop the valve body to see the band and struts. You might be able to see it starting to pull loose.

thanks for the info it will not shift into 2nd so I'm going to have it overhauled (is that the same as rebuilt?). I will check out the threads on air filters and find a better option. along with the overhaul I'm going to also invest in a better vb and triple disk tq from ats. if anyone knows a good shop in col. OH please let me know. I have found one in marysvill that wants bout $1100.

Find one who uses Goerend parts. 1100 really?? the master rebuild kit alone is 1000. 00 . With what you want to do plan on spending 5000. 00 +

the $1100 was just labor:) it will end up bout $3800 in parts. I called several shops and they seem to be bout the same. Goerend couldn't seem to call anyone back.

well that's about right on the labor . Goerends busy give them a chance to call you back . Think about a billet input shaft too

I did, but then new flex plate? why not get one already rebuilt? to many options and I never plan to drag race or sled pull. after this it's mostly bumpers, winch, armor, etc.

I think it better your trans stays in-house . Flex plate only if your draggin. You will want to hot rod it once you get that built transmission in there . Goerend should be able to give you a reference for your area.
