The rubber transmission hose up front that connects to the cooler is leaking. It has a special fitting on one end and a hose clamp on the other end. Can this hose be replaced with bulk hose with a hose clamp on both ends?



I called around and no one has 1/2" transmission hose. Can hydraulic hose be used?



BTW: This hose has been chafed through about 1/2" from the special end fitting. There is nothing I see in the area that could do this. Looks like someone took a grinder wheel to the hose. Any ideas?
 
I have a 2002 and am replacing my hot line with a '95 with a port for a temp sensor. On mine my check valve is in the heat exchanger and I also got a stainless braided hose to replace that rubber section. The long and short is I have a "spare" rubber hose and check valve if you want it. Email me at -- email address removed -- with your address / phone number and I would be happy to send it to you. You pay the shipping is all I ask.



Have no idea why the hose is chaffed. The little 1" fitting thing on the end is the check valve to keep the fluid from draining out of the TC and is a 2psi check valve.



Let me know if you want my "extra" hose.

Transmission hose

Are you talking about the hose(s) below the radiator with the metal retaining clips? Correct me if I am wrong but I think these goto the auxiliary transmission cooler. I would check a hydraulic specialty shop or I hate to say it "the stealer"... :confused:
 
Dshuart: Yes, except that on a '95 the clips are plastic (the clips that are known to sometimes melt and fall apart when the transmission overheats).



One of my questions is: Can hydraulic hose be used with transmission fluid?
 
Hose

I bought some transmission cooler hose at Autozone earlier this year, NAPA should also have it. I have used fuel hose for years on gasser transmission cooler hookups and never had a problem, if you can't find specific trans fluid hose, the new fuel injection hose for automobiles should work fine, it is rated for more pressure than standard hose. bg
 
A hydraulic shop (Kundinger Fliud Power-A Parker Fitting Store around here) will have the trans hose in 1/2".



The hose that rweis is refering to goes from the end of the line out of the trans to the cooler on the side of the engine behind the turbo. I believe you are reffering to the hose at the front cooler by the radiator.



Yes, you can use regular hose on from the stock tube to the cooler with 2 hose clamps. The stock steel lines make a 90 degree bend and the hoses are plain straight pieces with the connector on them. You might have to trim the end off the tube to get the hose slid on (use a pipe cutter, not a saw). I might have my old parts laying around somewhere, I'd make you a super deal on both hoses.



If you (or someone else) has updated those lines, they will stop short of the 90 degree bend. The updated hoses have the bend molded in. The fix there would be to trim the tubes back farther and use a longer piece of hose.

Thanks for the replies. The hose that 'rweis' has for me is the one that connects to the engine mounted cooler, so won't work.



I called the STEALER and they wanted $85 plus tax for the hose (about 18" of 1/2" transmission hose with a quick connect fitting on one end). I ended up buying some Gates oil resistant hose with a 500psi rating at O'Reilly's for $2 (including tax). So, my repair, with two new hose clamps cost me $4 plus about 10 minutes of my time.



BTW: I cut the steel band holding the old quick connect fitting to the hose and found that the fitting could be reused by using a hose clamp with it. However, I didn't see any point in using it, so it's now in my tooxbox.
