Transmission. How Important?

I'm getting ready to change the trans fluid and filter. I've checked several old posts but they really didn't answer my question. My trans shifts just fine, must I adjust the Bands? I would think if the Bands needed to be adjusted shift quality wouldn't be good. Am I correct in thinkig this way?

IMHO I would adjust the bands every time the fluid and filter are changed. If you have the tools to perform the adjustment and the knowledge I would as the only way to get to the rear band adjuster is with the pan and filter off. Cheap insurance.

It is a good idea to at least check the adjustments at service time. I use the servo travel method. I put a 1/4" allen wrench(bent end) between the front servo pin and lever,loosen locknut and tighten adj. bolt pretty snug with short 5/16" wrench,tighten locknut,remove allen wrench. On rear servo, pull down on apply arm, adjust to 1/4" movement, tighten locknut. It is not unusual for the bands to be okay and not need adjusting. HTH #ad
