transmission is howling as i apply power in 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th. Goes away at about 1900rpm, also hard to get into gear (2nd) at stop light, also hard to get into 3rd on the shift. transmission has 232k on it, SBDD has 12K. I am thikning it need to rebuild/replace? TIA, Scott

Your best two alternatives to choose from are Standard Transmission in Fort Worth or Blumenthals in OKC. Both are TDR advertisers, both are commonly used by TDR members, and well respected.

My advice is contact one or both, select one, make arrangements, and have a local (to you) shop r&r the transmission and ship it to the rebuilder you choose. Have your local shop install a complete new clutch assembly while it is exposed.

Not to try and run p my post's like some but that is how mine started out. I had 214k on mine. Was lucky, I was close to Blumenthas in OKC.

The reasons I suggested clutch replacement are (1) I didn't know your clutch had been replaced and (2) the labor to r&r the transmission is significant and costly. Unless you replaced the entire assembly recently it would be prudent to do it when the transmission is out.

Post #1 states the clutch has 12K miles on it, which is new enough that it shouldn't need replacement.

Scott, I know it's a lot of trouble but do you think it could be your pilot bearing? I've had these symptoms with various trucks and cars before and it turned out to be

the pilot bearing had disintergrated. After all, you have replaced the clutch recently and maybe damaged it putting the transmission back in.
