I have an 01 with an automatic and 140,000 miles. It started shifting rapidly back and forth from OD to 3rd today between 45 and 50 mph. Stopped if I shut off overdrive or accelerated out of that speed. Thought I read something about this in a past forum or the magazine. Any help would be appreciated?

Thanks

Rob

If you go to search on the forum page and type in shifting in out of od or similar you will get enough reading to last for many days. Lots of fixes some work and some work better than others. Hope this helps.

RGiordano,

I had exactly the same issue with my 47Re transmission this past summer and FourBarR is correct, there is tons of threads on this forum talking about TC locking and unlocking. This forum is really great! After reading the various fixes talked about I decided to do a test on my truck to see if it was the alternator causing the RFI interference. First, I took a test drive to make sure the TC was doing its locking and unlocking between 45 and 50 mph. Sure enough, it was. Then I came back to my shop, and without disconnecting the batteries, I very carefully disconnected the battery wire from the back of the alternator and taped the end of it with electrical tape to prevent shorting it. I then took another test drive, and the TC locking and unlocking between 45 and 50 mph was gone. Yippy!

I ordered a 47RE noise filter made by No Bull Tech Services from this place: http://www.trnw.net/store/products.php?products_id=30. Cost $62. 50. It took about 15 minutes to install. I have had it on for 3 months and have driven about 4K miles with the truck camper loaded on and the transmission has worked perfectly. Not once has it done the locking and unlocking thing. So far I'm happy.
