transmission KO'd

Well, last night I drove the truck hard for the first time since the new clutch install and the transmission didn't like all of the power going through it.....



I put the truck in third going around 30mph/2000rpm and floored it next to a Mustang about half a second later... . BOOM BANG CRACK and the transmission made all kinds of noise. Third gear is the worst followed by first, fifth and reverse. The truck still pulls itself in second and fourth just fine but it makes a lot of noise.



Any ideas on what happened to the transmission?

Sounds like it couldn't handle the power and eat itself.

I don't want to think about what a rebuild will cost.

I'm no expert, just did some minor things to the insides of some older new process ( dodge 833 ) transmissions. 1,3,5 are either up or down on your shift pattern? 2,4,R may be the other way. If the sychros were weak/not fully engaged and you "punchged it" and it did slip out under power it looks like you destroyed at least one synchro and the force damaged the shifting mechanism ( in that direction). That is why 1. 3. 5 went away As long as you dont drive it it may be rebuildable. At least until the shavings get into the main gears and start galling things up.
