I need some help,

Back when I bought my truck new, I had a rear transmission seal leak. The seal was replaced at 2,000 mi and now the truck has 13,500 miles on it. Well guess what, the same seal is leaking again. Assuming the seal is not the problem, what else could it be? I have checked the driveshaft for play and it does appear to have some, although I don't know the exact amount. Is this normal or do I have a problem? And if the play at the output shaft is not normal where do I start looking for the problem? Tailshaft bearings??

Tailshaft bushing or rough/nicked yoke would be a likely place to start. Careful examination of the seal might show if the leak is from the seal to housing or the yoke to seal.

Do the repair yourself, it's not that hard. If the yoke was scored where the first seal sat, it should have been replaced when the seal was replaced. If it's scored and a new seal is put on, it's just a matter of time before it starts leaking again.
