Well, after ~120 launches and 6 months of abuse, the forward clutches welded together while spooling up on my FIRST pass in Commerce, GA this weekend.

Clint was next to me at the light! I had about 32 lbs of boost built (can't be beat by a Duramax!) as the second light illuminated she lunged and stopped. I changed a few gears and when I put it back in first it went forward so I nailed it and managed to make it from the 60' to the end in 12. 0 seconds. I drove back to the pits in Neutral, which is not good.

Clint and crew had a spare transmission, but it was a stock one and Clint and I agreed on a different set up with a different stall for spool up.

So the ATS crew is working feverishly to build a new transmission and get it shipped to me as I type this. Thanks to everyone that offered to start working right away on my truck. I still had a great time!

any NORMAL human being would have limped it off the track and prayed they had friends enough to get them home

"YOU'RE CRAZY" :D

Sorry to hear that the transmission died, at least you had some good guys around to help you out.

LMAO! Sorry to hear about the forward clutches, but at least you didn't have to PUSH it back to the pits!:D

I think you need to change the title of this post to ... "transmission won't let go" :D

Sorry I could not reisit.

Stack'd-n-Jack'd: I still had a great time

This guy is a survivor...

Like Barney!

let's see... Barney's purple... ok... ATS is purple

Barney has made more money than Madonna & Tom Cruise put together... ok... ATS makes more money, and sells more transmissions & TC's than any other trans. outfit here, judging by the size & success of their operation.

Barney's a dinosauer, which means he is BIG & TOUGH... ok... ATS Triple-Lok is BIG & TOUGH...

And Barney is a sweet-heart... and all the guys I met at ATS would have done ANYTHING for me while I was there.

Yup, Bob Wagner, I'd say you nailed it! Thank You!

not trying to start another , ummmm ... debate ... ya thats it , but huh ?????

The most loved/hated ( simultaneously) by the same person character ever invented. Keeps the kids quiet( great!!). If you have to watch it with them have the insulin handle for the sickly sweet sentimentality, And keed sharp objects away from the adults. After an hour of barney most previously sane adults contemplate giving themselves a lobotomy with a large hatpin. His exixtence also generated more hate websites for something than osma bin laden has.

I'll repeat it, M-m, I believe ATS is the most successsful trans builder on this site judging by their operation.

ATS has an 8-bay shop, which is always full to the max.

They have 22 employees who are busy up to their eyeballs with TC's & trans'.

Their 30-space parking lot is ALWAYS full of (mostly) Dodge/Cummins, but also Powerstrokes, Duramax's, and big rigs with ailing Allisons.

Before they decided to concentrate on Dodge/Cummins they were the biggest builder of Drag Racing Torque Converters in the West. Etc. Etc.

I'd say they paid their dues and learned a thing or two in their (I think 10) years in business.

I'm checking the specifics of their length of time in business, and I'll change that number if my information is incorrect.

Eric,

Sorry to hear about the troubles. I have broken several times at various events with my truck, so I know how it feels to sit and watch. Isn't that two events in a row now that you haven't been able to compete in? That's a bummer. It did remind me of a post you put up a few weeks ago. Here's a clip:

Haven't broke the stock shafts yet. I figure it's a matter of time. Either that or that ultra secretive locked to locked formula Clint at ATS came up with!

Anyhow, you can't go wrong with PM, especially if you are racing hours from home with no ride back.

Eric,

There are no secrets about slipping clutches and smooth shifts. Once you start putting some power through that transmission, the hard parts will begin to break. I broke two stock shafts in fluid coupling before getting Bill's billet parts. Why do you not have billet parts yet? I thought ATS already had billet stuff.

-Chris

Many people have tried to explain that smooth shifts locked to locked are accomplished by slow shifts and slipping clutches. I still can't understand why people refuse to believe that. One thing to keep in mind about auto trannies is that they can take a lot of abuse. The clutches can slip for several months before it finally lets go. So it feels really good for a few months and then leaves you stranded.

I'm sure you don't want this to happen again, so what is going to be done to prevent this failure from repeating? higher line pressures?

Have you got the billet shafts yet? At your power level you WILL need them when the clutches stop slipping.

Again, sorry to hear about the trouble.

-Chris

RRausch,

Who told you that they were the biggest Drag Racing trans company on the west?

I race on the west and don't know of a single racer that runs there stuff. I run at most major divisional and national events, from BC Canada to Texas and don't know of anyone that runs there stuff. I think who ever is giving you this info is a bad source. If they were the biggest racing company they would need a lot more than 8 bays and 22 employees. We are sponsored by a fairly small racing company that builds racing converters and they have a 40 000+ sq. ft. building with 65+ employees and they are only an average sized company that does no installs, don't build transmissions or nothing just converters and trans parts.

I would check more than just how long they have been in business, because that's not the only wrong info. Maybe Don or Clint would be better to explain how a huge converter company in the racing industry could be unheard of. For those who don't believe me ask a local racer outside of Colorado if they have ever heard of ATS or even guys in colorado if they use their converter I think you will be very surprised at what you hear.

Please don't feel that I am attacking you, this is for who ever gave you this info. Again I am a racer on the west so I KNOW that the supplied info is wrong.

Rrausch, I don't want you to think I am mobbing on you but I would have to agree with Steph on this one. I have been into performance cars for 11 years and have never heard of ATS till last year on this website. That's just my experience though. :) Oo.

While it is true that Eric (Stack'd-n'Jack'd) had problems

with his ATS transmission at Atlanta; I recall that a Dodge

CTD with a DTT transmission broke at the Muncie drag races.

guys

we all break parts, that's what us sponsered guys are here for. the ? will be awnsered when erics new transmission comes, to see if they fixed the problem. we break parts so that the avg user won't.

eric

i'm not a transmission guy by any means so please bare with me. but how does stalling your truck make your clutch pack weld together? isn't all the heat being built up in the convertor?

jim

For the guy's like me who don't drag race their truck's and or try to build boost at a light , I would think that the transmission would last a lot longer and might not require a billet shaft.

I do admire your truck as it must be a blast to ride in. I have heard a very smart guy say that when you keep turning up the power something has to give. Good luck with your truck and keep up the good work. Jim
