Drained and flushed my cooling system today and found a potentially serious problem that you guys with auto transmission's need to be aware of.

When I opened the radiator pet cock, I found the transmission fluid lines making contact with the pet cock. The line at this area is rubber and there was a bad spot on the hose that had been wearing on the pet cock. Much more and it would have been worn through. This would have been a loss of transmission fluid and a potential for a very expensive transmission repair. You guys might want to check and see if your's are doing the same thing. Could prevent a major transmission problem.

Thought you might like to know this.

transmission Line Problem

Stan. Thanks for the heads up. I looked at the area that you were talking about and just like you said, the cooler line was rubbing on the pit cock drain and the steel collars were rubbing against the radiator.

I put some insulation on the line and will address the problem more when I change out the radiator. I think that I'm going to replace the lines and reroute if possible when the radiator is out.

Also there is a clamp that holds the lines parralell (sp) to each other. The nut was rubbing against the intercooler inlet and had been rubbing for some time, pretty deep dimple. Hope this dosn't become a problem in the future. I moved it up so it was not rubbing and retightened. Take another look and see where you clamp is riding and move if needed.

Did you happen to look at your high pressure AC hose on the other side of the intercooler? Mine was rubbing on the top side of the boot and has put a pretty deep dimple in the boot, going to change the boot out when I change the radiator.

I'm going on a long vacation at the end of this month and don't need any problems on the road. Heading to Santa Maria, Ca and driving north for a while.

It only gets better

Before you crawl all the way to the floor to look under that goat don't forget to check those little sections of rubber lines located on the driver's side, near the top of the radiator that connect the metal lines. The clamps have a habit of loosening allowing the lines to blow off. Bet you can guess what happens next.

RamAZ,

Thanks for the comments you made about the aftercooler and the high pressure AC line. I looked at the transmission lines where the pass along side the aftercooler discharge and found they had been rubbing there also and on the side of the radiator. Was wearing the metal line on one side. Split a piece of heater hose and used cable ties to secure. Also put a piece of self stick foam gasket on the aftercooler discharge and on the side of the radiator. I also used a split piece of heater hose for the problem I had found earlier.

I looked at the AC lines and found the same thing you found. Looks like the boot is worn almost all the way through. Tied the lines up and put a piece of the foam gasket on the boot in case the lines drop back down.

While under the truck, saw that the transmission shop didn't put some wires back where they should have and they were rubbing on the shift linkage. That was a problem just waiting to happen!

Well, this is what the club is all about - helping each other out. In this case it was helping to stop a problem before it turned into something major. Hope the other guys see this and take a look at their trucks as well. Thanks a lot. :)

On my truck, the metal band that ties the two lines together, near the juction of the engine and transmission had worn a hole in one of the lines.
