I've had the manual transmission filter from Geno's for a while now. I recently installed the Fabcraft PTO cover to install a trany temp gauge sender on the drivers side of my NV 4500 manual gear box. Question is where to put the magnet that was on the left side PTO cover? Any thoughts? Can I just put it in the bottom of the case? Will it stay put? Can I glue it down with some RTV? How can I get the case clean and dry so that the RTV will hold it to the case? Should I just leave it out? Thanks in advance. Ken Irwin

I've always felt the main function of a magnet is to monitor what's going on with your gears. Wouldn't help much if you couldn't see what it's attracting stuck on the bottom of the transmission. Your filter should do much the same job as a magnet anyways. I've drilled part way though my differential plugs and glued rod shaped magnets in them, works great. Probably didn't even need the glue they stuck so well. You could do the same with the fill plug on your transmission.

Just throw it in the bottom of the trans, no advesive needed, i'ts a magnet!!. This is where it is put in the 6 speeds. I'ts actually probably the best spot. When the truck is parked and particles have time to settle, that is where they end up, in the bottom of the trans. If you have ever saved the oil from an oil change and left it set in a container for awhile you will notice particles in the bottom, just where a magnet should be.

Arn't you guys afraid the magnet are gonna make your gears stick? I can't see why we need them on the autos, we got fiber coated disc between the metal parts. :-laf :-laf Oo. :-laf :-laf

I just had to say that.
