Archived Transmission not shifting into low or 2nd

I have a 2001 dodge cummins with an automatic transmission. The problem is that it starts out in third gear. I can manually shift it into first and second but will not start out there unless i manually shift it. I had a couple codes in it one was a 1698 and the other i don't remember but it delt with the same type of problem as the 1698. My cousin is an auto tech which i also work for and we called a tech line and checked the computer which seems to be fine. Need help!!!!!!!!! Thanks Dave.

Hey,



two sensors on the valve body. Governor pressure sensor and Governor pressure transducer. one is about $60-70 and the other is $120 from a dealer. a qualified trans guy could do some pressure/sensor test to determine if it is just one of them, but by the time you pay for test you bought the sensors. you drop the pan like a filter change, and you can change them without removing the valve body. disconnect the batteries while you do it to reset the controller, install a new filter and fluid and your good to go.

The instructions are in the latest TDR mag... . Mine did the same thing replaced governor pressure sensor and selonoid and it's been fine ever since...
