Can anyone tell me if its ok to put Synthetic transmission oil in my 2001, AT, 2WD (60k miles) RAM 3500 diesel truck ?

Also, do I have to change the transmission oil filter with the oil change. I went to the Cedar rapids Dodge dealer and he says he can only do a oil flush with out taking the oil pan, gasket and the fiilter. Is the the normal process or the dealer is not equiped to handle the change?

thanks in advance.

Syn. is ok, it seems that a lot of places are not changing the filter becouse most do a back flush fluid change, they hook up to the cooling lines and pump out old and refill with new using a pressureized tank , so if you do the filter before then it gets some dirt in it , you can'nt do it after becouse you'ld lose

some of the fluid, I've heard that this is a accepted method , by most dealers. The old way when changing filter , the only fluid changed was what was in the pan maybe 3-5qts. , now all the fluid is changed, trans. last longer with all new fluid.

If you pull the pan, you will need 6qts to refill. It is great to flush whole system but

you don't get to inspect pan for debris, magnet for clutch material, or adjust the

bands. Adjusting the bands is very important especially the front band on a 47re.
