Changed my transmission oil today at close to 24,000 miles and it didn't look that bad. Bought 4 qts from the local Dodge dealer and installed close to 4 qts. Shifts alot better now and the only conclusion I can come up why it was a little bit hard to shift was the factory didn't put enought fluid in at the factory. You guys that are having a little problem when shifting check your transmission oil and see if you have enought fluid.

Bill, don't know how much you paid at the "DEALER", but Autozone sells the Pennzoil Synchromesh fluid for $6. 09 a qt. Changed mine 3 times now, but still a bit stiff at times getting into gear, might take to "DEALER" by end of month before I run out of warranty.

I used Amsoil MTL. Differance in night and day on the shifting. Its still a big clunky unit. But shifts MUCH better then stock now.

changed my at 19000 to pennzoil, took 5qts. pulled the cover off and clean the magnet and wiped as much out as i could of the inside. also pull the shifter out, took apart cleaned it. it never shifted so smooth. im going to start doing this every 15000 miles.

What gives????

Ya know, for the the life of me I cannot figure out what you guys are talking about when you say that the manny shifts rough "clunky".

This is my first manny (NV 5600) and this thing is a dream to shift hot or cold . It must be ready to break .

Well I've driven sticks all my life. The NV5600 is fine. Its ok. But slick and a dream to shift I think not. I'm fine with mine and from what I've read a damn tough unit. But its not a "DREAM"to shift.

MMeier, went to Auto Zone first and they only had to quarts left and said they couldn't order any more, your right, they wanted $6. 09, the Dodge dealer wanted $9. 10 per qt. but they sold it to me for $8. 10. I hate going to dealers.

Fast Coolers and NV5600

How many quarts are you all using after a fast cooler install? I installed mine and put in over 8 quarts (Dodge Stuff). :--) I filled through the top hole in the fast cooler where I finally installed the temp sensor. Have never seen over 215 F on a 100 F day (even towing heavy).

I would agree I think my NV 5600 is a dream to shift, with or without the clutch. When racing I have no problem shifting fast, and when just cruising around it is very eaisy to float the gears. However whenever my friends drive my truck they find the transmission very hard to shift smoothly. They are amazed that I can shift this thing like a sports car.

I guess alot of it depends on your background. This truck shifts like a dream compared to the 1966 grain truck that I learnt how to drive on, but when compared to a small cars my friends drive the transmission can appear to be very crude.
